Following their  successful previous performances at the Castle, the acclaimed HandleBards Theatre Company return to the spectacular Inner Bailey with Shakespeare’s legendary tragedy Macbeth

As evening falls and the summer sky darkens over the battlements, experience an unforgettable night of open-air theatre filled with ambition, prophecy, betrayal and power beneath the Norman walls of one of England’s most historic castles.

Surrounded by flickering torchlight, ancient stone walls and the dramatic atmosphere of the Castle grounds, audiences will be immersed in one of Shakespeare’s most gripping and haunting plays.

Bring a chair or blanket, relax within the beautiful castle grounds, and experience live Shakespeare in one of England’s most atmospheric historic settings.

Set against the backdrop of one of England’s finest Norman castles, visitors will have the rare opportunity to experience life as it was in the early 1100s. Watch thrilling combat displays as Norman warriors clash with sword and shield, explore an authentic encampment, and discover the skills, crafts and traditions that shaped medieval society.

Meet costumed re-enactors, handle replica weapons and armour, learn about Norman warfare and daily life, and experience traditional cookery over open fires. From music and storytelling to craftsmanship and military displays, there is something to fascinate visitors of all ages.

This immersive living history event offers a unique chance to experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of medieval England within the very walls of a castle that has stood for more than nine centuries.
